This mask is from Pende, Congo circa 19th to mid 20th century. It is made of wood fiber and is approximately 15 inches in height. This mask would have been worn by a male performing some form of ritualistic dance. The feminine features of the mask also suggest that is may depict a woman. These "mbuya masks" are associated with male circumcision.
